Day 010

One of my biggest inspiration in animation is the upcoming movie Klaus.

The way the backgrounds are painted and how the lightning is done is stunning.

And thanks to this way of shading 2D animation comes back in line.

Cause the fact that people love 3D animation is due the shading.

There isn't much information on what the movie is about.

I thought it was based on a folktale but I’m not sure.

In my freetime I like to practise this style to make a part of it my own.

Day 009

Let's talk about my favorite artist from all time.

Leonardo mutherfucking Davinci

You can always wake me up for a gallery trip with leonardo’s art.

But not only his art is amazing, the man himself is such a wonderful being.

First of all he did a lot of studies what is important, and yes i start wondering myself why i never studied realism at the first point.

His studies go further then only studies he creates from his studies.

He creates machines ,weapons and many more. Sometimes I wished to travel back in time to get a private lesson from him and yes that's not the only reason why i want to have a private lesson but for now lets appreciate the wonderful Leo.

Day 008

Art Noveau.

As kid and even now I adore the amazing pieces of art Noveau.

Those wonderful details and those wonderful girls with big wavy hair.

Those pieces of art almost looks like little angels who are pasted on a frame.

Art nouveau was popular in 1890 and 1910. The meaning of Art Nouveau is new art.

The funny thing about the style is that It works for interior design, architecture and graphic art.

Its also used for jewelery and for decorative arts. And now you can find them in musea or illustration for spiratal cards and books.

Day 007

One of my favorite artist on youtube is Pogo.

And no he is not an artist who draws. He is a remixer.

He uses voice clips from different movies or commercials or even house objects, to create wonderful pieces of music.

His real name is Nick and he is super enthusiastic about his work and he should be.

For an montage class I edited some videos with lipsync under his audio and lord what was that a lot of fun. So maybe in the future I will remix my animations. But i always will remember that loving your own work is the first step.

Let's talk about Rebecca Sugar.

Rebecca Sugar is one of my best inspirations, not only because her stories and animations. But more the way she sees things. She always inspire you with the things you love.

She also created a wonderful 4 week challenge what I still want to do someday, cause in my opinion it can help me a lot. And it's wonderful how she shares her ideas to help you.

Day 005

I want to brag about one of my favorite childhood books that gave me a lot of inspiration on my project where is till work on in my freetime.

The book series are called Torak and Wolf in my country but the original title is Wolf Brothers.

The book is written by Michelle Paver. It goes about a young boy who is banned from his group. He finds a young pup and travel the world to restore the balance.

They have special powers and such and it’s prehistoric.

I love the maps on the first page of the book, It gives you a insight of what may happen and where and it’s so well written.

Most of the books published in america and in Europe have boring covers but there are some amazing designed covers in other countries what i absolutely adore!

Day 004

So the Great Spirit blessed us with the three virtues: unity, duty, and destiny. We embraced these gifts and, in gratitude, we named our island home Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit himself.

And thats how the world of Bionicle begins.

Bionicle is still my favorite thing to talk about not only the fact that it was such a amazing toy where you could built everything you could imagine. No , the fact that it was written as a series and written as a enormous sci fi world.

It was one of the largest toy lines with such a big and mysterious world. And even all the books, comics, movies ,back covers and games couldn't get the full story in picture.

What inspired me the most is the concept art from bionicle.

They started with scary looking bioman and bio creatures and scale them down to lego.

And i love how everything in there world has a purpose and a special feeling.

I want to learn to make concepts like that to write something huge and make it real.

I guess it’s just a matter of fact that i have to stop fanboying about this world and take a step to my own creation, but for now let's take a closer look at the amazing world of Bionicle.

Day 003

I went to Dutch Comiccon this weekend it was amazing.

Sadly due school and my lack of process I had to skip the sunday.

As some of you may know, I am a cosplayer what means I like to give the characters from my favorite shows or books a shoutout with dressing like them.

Due the lack of time I went as Carl from the walking dead.

I still haven't catched up yet but Internet spoiled me enough to know what characters there are at the moment.

I was lets say a fun Carl who loved to annoy the Negan's with post it notes with kick me.

There reaction was priceless and everyone was super friendly.

And the coolest part was.

There was a whole stand dedicated to the walking dead !

Named The Dutching Dead.

There goal was to bring the characters to live in cosplay and everyone was so friendly and it felt like i knew them for years.

I think the world needs to be more like them respectful and open minded about a lot.

Just being open and share your same interest with the world is a beautiful thing.

It really inspired me and it makes me want to be a part of the group.

Sadly they already have a Carl.

So my plan for next convention would be Abraham I think. Just to say oh what a surprise that your group lacks a abraham what a shame ;)

Day 002

Today was a hectic day full of things i had to do.

I took a rest when i was home and wanted something to read.

And i couldn't believe my eyes when i found one of my favorite child book series covered in dust waiting to be discovered again.

It was a series called Pettson and Findus (Swedish for Pettson och Findus) and it bought back so many good memories. Going to all libraries to ask for the books. And when you was lucky there were no interest in the books and they went up for sale.

I think you would understand why i loved those books a lot, take a look at some amazing artworks so subtle and yet so full of details.

The story goes about Pettson who gets a young cat named Findus they both run a farm and try to run it as good as possible. Because the books sold so well, i still can't believe there was somehow zero interest in Holland that was good for me but still i kept asking myself about that, They made some animated movies about them. A movie from 77 minutes where tiny me and my parents went to.

We rent tickets because we thought it would’ve been sold out fast but when we were there we were all alone! A whole cinema theater for our self ! i still can't believe it and i still can't believe how many of the people in holland missed this wonderful piece of art.

Day 001

Let me introduce myself with what inspires me on this moment.

Something that keeps me motivated through the hard days of my study where motivation is sometimes hard to find but also my inspiration for making goals step by step.

I want to introduce you to the amazing Hamilton musical.

For those who have seen of it or listen it on Youtube, you would understand what i mean with what I am trying to say here.

The story goes about Alexander Hamilton. The subject sounds a little bit school-like but the way that the musical is written is so human-like. That you can relate to all his actions and can relate to all the people around Alexander.

Not only the music also a part of the fandom got me in animation. Some amazing artist like , spibbles , Zsin , Muchinery and many more create animatics for the musical numbers.

Each with a own art style and way of making little notes.

I really love the hearts in the mouth from Spibbles animatics and i really adore the style for Muchanirey helps me to see the fun drawing realistic but with a spin !

All of those animatics makers are so amazing and i hope they will never stop animating!

This blog is not really an art blog.

It contains my view about things that give me inspiration to write, draw , sing , or create.

To introduce my name is Joost V and I am a student at the HKU and study animation.

It's a fun loving study with a lot of ups and downs but I will get there. And even when I fail there are so many other possibilities in this world. That is the most inspiring thing about the earth it’s never the same it always changing, and so can we.

I really am thankful that I came to a point that people are interested to read my stories, ideas or watch what iImake. Its it's truly a wonderful thing the power to share.
